Early stage, unpaid roles

Help build Sondera from the first commit.

We are an early-stage initiative and do not have funding yet, so we are honest about what we offer: internships and volunteer collaborations, not salaried positions. In exchange you get real research and engineering problems, close mentorship, and work you can publish and point to. Representing a company instead of yourself? See industry sponsorship below.

Open roles

Four ways to contribute.

Signal processing and ML intern

Internship

Work on the core pipeline: denoising, deconvolution, feature extraction, and detection models for THz time-domain data. You will train and evaluate models against simulated and measured datasets.

  • Python and NumPy/SciPy
  • PyTorch or similar
  • Signal processing fundamentals

Physics simulation intern

Internship

Build the synthetic data engine: FDTD and finite element models of wave propagation in layered composites, used to train and validate detection models before hardware time is spent.

  • Electromagnetics or acoustics
  • MEEP, COMSOL, or similar
  • Scripting for parameter sweeps

Platform engineering intern

Internship

Ship the analysis workspace: dataset uploads, processing runs, defect maps, and reports. The stack is Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and Vercel, with the design system already in place.

  • TypeScript and React
  • SQL and API design
  • Care for accessible, tested UI

NDE domain volunteer

Volunteer

Certified inspectors, researchers, and lab engineers who want to shape the tool they wish existed. Review defect taxonomies, acceptance criteria, and reporting formats against real practice.

  • NDT Level II or III, or research background
  • UT, THz, radiography, or CT experience
  • A few hours per month

Remote-friendly and flexible around your studies. Internships can be arranged for academic credit where your institution allows it.

What you get

No salary yet. Everything else, we deliver.

Early contributors take a real risk on us, and we treat that seriously. Scope is agreed up front, your work ships under your name, and when funding arrives, the people who built the foundation are the first we want to pay.

  • Direct mentorship from the founder, a THz NDE researcher
  • Real problems on real data, not toy exercises
  • Co-authorship on publications your work contributes to
  • A concrete portfolio piece and a reference you can use
  • First consideration for paid roles once funding lands

Industry sponsorship

Back Sondera before everyone else does.

We are also looking for a small number of industry sponsors: companies and labs that fund early development or contribute inspection data, hardware time, or engineering hours. Sponsoring an early-stage platform is a bet, so we make it a well-informed one: agreed milestones, open progress reporting, and direct access to the team behind the research. The sponsors who shape Sondera now are the ones it will fit best later.

Become a sponsor
  • First access to the platform and priority on your inspection problems
  • Direct influence on the roadmap: your modality and use case move up
  • Your data stays yours, with results and models you can audit
  • Founding-sponsor visibility on the site and in publications, if wanted
  • Milestone-based agreements with open progress reporting
